Infant Oral Exams

Following the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Dr. Mark P. Gerald advises that infants should have their first oral examination between the ages of 6 months to 1 year old or when the first tooth appears. Early dental visits help establish a strong foundation for lifelong oral health by allowing for the early detection of potential issues, providing guidance on proper care, and creating a positive experience for young children in a dental setting.

During this initial visit, Dr. Gerald will assess your child’s oral development, check for any early signs of cavities or other dental concerns, and provide valuable guidance on maintaining optimal oral hygiene. He will discuss the importance of a balanced diet in promoting healthy teeth and gums, offer age-appropriate hygiene techniques such as proper brushing and flossing methods, and address concerns regarding pacifier use or thumb-sucking habits. Additionally, he will provide parents with preventive strategies, including fluoride recommendations and teething relief tips, to ensure their child’s smile stays healthy from the very beginning.

Establishing a dental home early on can help prevent dental anxiety, promote good oral hygiene habits, and support overall health and well-being as your child grows.

Dr. Mark P. Gerald will review proper diet, age-appropriate hygiene, and go over pacifier use to make sure your child’s oral health starts strong and stays strong.
